Radiant Heating for Covered or Semi-Open Terraces
Efficiently heat your terrace while maintaining its aesthetics and openness
Covered or partially sheltered terraces are living spaces that benefit from year-round use. To extend their use beyond warm weather, electric radiant heating is the simplest, cleanest, and most efficient solution.
Why choose radiant heating for your terrace?
Unlike convection heaters, radiant devices work by radiation: they directly warm people and surfaces without heating the ambient air. This makes them ideal for open or ventilated areas.
- Easy installation under roofs, pergolas, awnings, or light structures
- Immediate heat with no warm-up time
- Silent operation, no ventilation or odours
- Simple or discreet design, easy integration into surroundings
- Low electrical consumption for targeted comfort
Which heating type to choose?
Several technologies exist. For sheltered terraces, we recommend:
- Medium-wave infrared (IR-M) or far infrared: gentle and even heat, ideal for prolonged use
- Short-wave infrared (IR-A): suitable for highly exposed or poorly insulated terraces (with visible reflector)
Power depends on the surface to be heated and the level of lateral opening of the terrace. Generally, recommended:
- 1,500 to 2,000 W for 4 to 6 m²
- 2,400 to 3,000 W for 6 to 10 m²
Installation advice
For optimal efficiency:
- Mount heater between 1.8 m and 2.5 m height
- Direct radiation toward seating or traffic area
- Use stable, non-combustible wall or ceiling mounts
- Choose a device with suitable IP rating (IP24 to IP65 depending on exposure)
