Radiant heating for workshops: targeted warmth for work areas
Instant thermal comfort without energy loss, even in large uninsulated spaces
Heating a workshop or production area can be a real challenge: large volumes, open doors, high ceilings, poorly insulated zones… In such conditions, traditional heaters are often ineffective. Electric radiant heating, on the other hand, provides direct warmth to workstations, operators, and critical zones, without having to heat the entire air volume of the building.
Why use radiant heating in a workshop?
Radiant heating works through infrared radiation. It delivers heat directionally, making it ideal for industrial or craft environments:
- Localised heating with no loss to air volume
- Immediate warmth from the moment it's switched on
- Silent operation, no fan required
- Simple installation on metal frames or walls
- Low energy use by targeting specific zones
Targeted zones
- Fixed workstations
- Mechanical or assembly workshops
- Packing or assembly areas
- Occasionally used logistics zones
- Workshop offices, technical rooms or unheated changing rooms
Which heating types to choose?
- Shortwave (IR-A): for very open or cold-exposed areas
- Medium wave (IR-M): for gentle warmth in continuous production zones
- Fixed or suspended mounting: depending on ceiling height
Recommended power and installation
- Single workstation (3–4 m²): 1,500 to 2,000 W
- Double zone (2 operators): 2,400 to 3,000 W
- Entire workshop (depending on surface area): modular setup with several units per section
Installation tips:
- Wall-mounted or suspended at 2.5 to 3.5 m
- Tilted towards the activity zone
- Height adjusted to layout (bay, beam, mezzanine)
- Recommended IP rating: IP55 or higher depending on dust/moisture levels
Energy savings and productivity
Radiant heating warms only the occupied areas. This reduces energy consumption, eliminates draughts, and directly improves operator comfort and productivity — especially at sensitive workstations (precision, welding, assembly).
