Radiant Heating for Loggias: Gentle Warmth for a Semi-Open Space
Optimize the thermal comfort of your loggia without major work or space loss
The loggia, often seen as an enclosed balcony or an extra room, is a prized living space in many urban homes. Partially sheltered and exposed to natural light, it deserves heating that respects both the aesthetics of the place, co-ownership rules, and technical constraints. Electric radiant heating perfectly meets these requirements.
Why choose radiant heating for a loggia?
Since loggias are generally partially glazed, closed on the sides, and covered, they provide a perfect environment for radiant heating:
- No air circulation: ideal to avoid dust or condensation on windows
- Direct and localized heat: perfect for small spaces
- Wall or ceiling installation: saves space and ensures safety
- Silent operation, odorless and gas-free
Which infrared types to use in a loggia?
Medium or far infrared devices (IR-M / IR-C) are preferred, delivering gentle and enveloping warmth, perfectly suited for daily and prolonged use.
Short-wave (IR-A) models may be considered for very open or windy loggias, but their red light may be less discreet in residential settings.
Recommended power and setup
Loggias have modest surfaces, often between 3 and 8 m². Here are the suggested power ranges:
- For 3 to 5 m²: 1,200 to 1,800 W
- For 6 to 8 m²: 2,000 to 2,400 W
Installation tips:
- Wall installation at 1.8 to 2.2 meters height
- Orientation towards the relaxation area (table, armchairs, desk)
- Use of fixed or adjustable mounts
- IP24 rating is sufficient if the loggia is well sheltered
Respect for co-ownership rules
As loggias are often visible from outside the building, it is important to choose a discreet model in neutral colors (black, white, gray) without excessive light emission. Installation should not alter the facade or encroach on common elements.
Ultra-flat or built-in models are particularly recommended. When in doubt, always check with the building management.
